Philip Stevens vliegt met een groep VIP's naar de grote opening van zijn kunstcollectie, als een groep kapers gas inzetten om de overige passagiers verdoven. De bedoeling van het drietal is om de kostbare kunstschatten aan boord te stelen, maar het hele plan valt in duigen als de 747 neerstort in de 'Bermuda driehoek'. Het vliegtuig stort in zee en zinkt snel naar de bodem van de oceaan; de passagiers hebben de klap op het water echter wel overleefd. Op het vasteland wordt een immense reddingsoperatie gestart om het vliegtuig (zonder het in tweeën te laten breken) naar de oppervlakte te brengen.
