Het verhaal speelt zich af in 1969 rond de Stonewall-rellen, de gewelddadige confrontatie die het begin betekende van de homobeweging in New York City. Danny Winters, een jonge homo, vlucht naar New York en laat zijn zus achter. In New York ontdekt hij de homobar The Stonewall Inn waar hij kennismaakt met Trevor. Hij wordt er echter ook opgemerkt door Ed Murphy, de manager van The Stonewall Inn die samenspant met corrupte agenten en dakloze jongeren uitbuit.
